QUESTIONS & ANSWERS
Ask a Question-
Can i freeze portions of this for later use, to extend shelf life?
Hello!
We do not recommend freezing your lotion! We believe it may compromise the preservative that the lotion base has.
-
What type of colorant do you recommend and much is safe to add.
Hello,
The colorants you can use are liquid colors and the micas! We generally recommend mixing the mica with a bit of a liquid oil so it disperses easily in your lotion! If you rather not use that method than the liquid colors would be the best option! Liquid colors are suspended in glycerin and are a liquid dye which is also a good safe option for lotion! -
Can this lotion base be used to make body butters?
Hello,
Yes this is a perfect place to begin! We recommend Picking your preferred base and adding a very minimum amount of distilled water for example 10oz. We specify on how warm this distilled water must be. Once you've mixed the base and distilled water you will notice it is very thick the more you whip it the fluffier it gets! Technically body butters do not contain any water but this specific product feels and nourishes just like one! You can even add actual butters to your base! We recommend adding approximately 3-4oz of your preferred butters to this base if you are planning on adding additional butters! We hope this helps!

Can this be blended with hydrosols like Rose water instead of distilled water?
Hello,
We don't suggest the substitution of water for hydrosols or rose water, but that being said we have not tested this ourselves. We do advise if you choose to try this on your own to use a small amount of lotion and substitution liquid in a very small batch. Proceed with caution. We aren't to sure how filtered some hydrosols are and if a piece of flower or herb enters the lotion base even with the preservative there is a chance of molding.
We hope this helped! -
Do you not have to add more preservative to the product once you put in water and additives?
Hello,
There is preservative already incorporated into our bases. There is enough preservative to cover up to 50oz of water. Once you add more than 50oz of water we recommend you add preservative at 1% of the extra water you do add! Don't worry we do provide instructions in your order!
We hope this helps! -
Can this be blended with body butter to create a lighter cream? Like 1:1 and 2:1 ratios. The body butter contains butter, oil, fragrance, and arrowroot powder. Thank You!
Hello!
We have tested adding butters like shea butter, and cocoa butter to our lotion bases and the outcome has been terrific! We just recommend proceeding with caution when adding products into the base. We always recommend doing a test sample of your mixture. We are not too sure how our lotion base would react if you add additional absorbant powders like arrowroot powder as we have not tested those ingredients. We can say that adding water, fragrance or essential oil and butters (like cocoa, mango, etc) have had very good outcomes no matter the proportions!
Be cautious! We hope his helped and happy making! -
Can I make a face cream with this Lotion base adding only essential oils? Thank you
Hello,
You most definitely can make a facial cream with this base! All you would have to do is add your preferred amount of distilled water and your preferred combination of essential oils and mix it very well and viola! You have a customized facial cream!
We hope this helped! Instructions will be included in your lotion base order! -
I ordered the concentrated goats milk lotion base and I followed directions down to the temp of the water buts it’s separated leaving a layer of water on the bottom. I’m so unhappy with this purchase as I bought two tubs. I tried it twice for it to only separate again. I didn’t add anything to it beyond the water recommended. Please help.
Jason,
Thank you for reaching out to us. We are very sorry to hear your experience with our lotion base has been somewhat troublesome. Out of the 8 years we have sold all of our bases we have not yet run into an issue like this. We have tested that if you do not whip your lotion enough this separation of water and base can occur. We always advise to whip your lotion with either a kitchen aid or an automatic whipping tool to get the best results. If you are mixing by hand you have to mix for a long period of time to ensure the water, oil and lotion base is incorporated and mixed thoroughly enough. Please try whipping for a longer period of time. We personally like whipping until it gets nice and fluffy! Please let us know if this helped! Contact us by phone (630)262-2522 if you would like a more in depth explanation or if there is anything else we can help you with!

What is the price for your 8lb. Pail?
Good afternoon!
We currently do not carry this size of the Lotion base Goat milk on hand. That would be considered a special order! We are actually getting ready to place a big order for our lotion bases within the next couple of days! If you would like to place an order for this size please feel free to contact us before monday morning! Currently our estimated price for an 8lb pail would be $72 (this price is subject to change).

What is the shelf life if I add water? Do I need to put an expiration date on it?
Hello!
Whithout opening your lotion base the shelf life is about 2 years! Once the container is opened and water is added it's shelf life is shortened to 1 year. Of course the frequency on how many times the lotion is opened from the packaging date that will determine how long the ready made lotion will be good for! Generally anything in a jar is good for 6-9 months anything in a pump will be good up to a year! If you notice a change in scent or color that is a good indicator it is time to throw the product away.
The FDA does not require expirtation dates on your lotion products. They do require them on sunscreens but not regular lotions!
Thank you for taking your time to ask such a valuable question! -
Can I add Zinc Oxide to this and make it sun screen lotion ?
Amie,
We generally do not advise adding additional products, other than distilled water and Fragrance or essential Oils, because we cannot gurantee the outcome of the lotion. We encourage you to be very cautious using titanium dioxide as it is known to have a natural spf of 2-20depedning on the amount used! If you decide to use this ingredient we advise you to test it in small portions so that if in case it does not mix well with the batch you won't ruin your entire base! We hope this helped in some way!
Thank you for your valuable question!
